After Vash leaves

When he hears Vash leave his cabin later that night, there's no small sense of relief to it. At least for the moment he doesn't have to worry about him trying to get something from Armand that he can't reasonably give.

But he should still run all that by his inmate. After all the fuss he gave the other vampire about being able to make his own choices, he did kind of take that one away from him. Even if it was for everyone's immediate wellbeing.

So he puts his book down and goes to knock on Armand's door. At least he knows the guy can't sneak past him without him noticing. "Hey, Armand. Mind if we talk real quick?"

If Armand had slipped out of 'his' room not so long after he'd gone to take a rest and heard someone at the door, he doesn't consider it anyone's business but his. In any case, he was back in the room long before Vash left, and even actually got some rest though he's been awake for sometime before Sam's knock. It is evening, after all.

He's abandoned his shoes, but is otherwise still in the simple (and so even more unreasonably expensive) clothes he's been wearing since he ran into Vash on deck. There's no blood on them, so no need for any change.

"Not at all," he says, looking up at Sam.

As much as her conduct often indicates otherwise, Ashton is in fact capable of deductive reasoning. She's assumed the long note under Lestat's entry in the Warden Ledger was Armand's ever since it appeared, and he might as well have confirmed it long since.

Seeing that handwriting under Aerith's entry pisses her off real goddamn good. They've talked about this! (For some definition of 'talk': there was a language involved. It was spoken. Physical violence was not performed and blood was not spilled.)

So during one of her Lounge shifts, while Armand 'just happens' to be there, she mutters something to him as she's passing him by: We should talk. Privately. Privately, in this case, as code for without the Dancer perceiving it.

Ashton and Armand did speak on the topic of Aerith. Words were exchanged, which certainly counts as something. Most of those words were either threatening, insulting, or both - but that's not unusual. Armand's air of detached superiority (he's good at that one), had remained steady, as if the topic was no different from any other they've... spoken about.

Armand tilts his head slightly in acknowledgement of of her words. To be precise: that he knows exactly what she means.

Sometimes you just end up having private code phrases with someone because other people can be incredibly unreasonable.

He doesn't stick around for the whole shift, because he's skeptical about just how much the Dancers do or don't perceive, so there's no need to walk somewhere together when the end destination is understood.

It's a few days after the last bite that she comes over, knocking gently on Armand's door.

"Armand? Are you in?"

She can feel some excitement, a feeling of anticipation from her body, but she tried taking a deep, steading breath. No, that was not happening today.

Armand opens the door, giving Aerith a slight smile. He's not what could be called 'demonstrative' in most ways, but he has his manners. They have an arrangement, and that includes not appearing completely impervious to the concept of emotions.

...Luckily, it's also not one that he considers requires him to put on a greater display.

"Aerith. Come in." He steps away from the door, trusting her to close it behind her.
